Singer 128

This is a sewing machine that I had gotten from my grandmother on my mother’s side. It was apparently my great-grandmother’s originally. It was sitting in my aunt’s basement for a while, until she took it out and passed it along to me!

According to the serial number, the group of machines it was in was commissioned to be made on May 16th, 1922.

Below are the before and after pictures. It didn’t need much fixing up in order to get it going and looking nice again!

The when oiling the machine, the motor started to smoke, so I disassembled it. It turned out to be made out of coils that created an electromagnetic force that powered the wheel. Interesting! I have since thrown it away, and hope to attach the sewing machine to a treadle.
